Last night, Katie (the two-year old) decided that she would share her “appasauce” with Bob the Betta. (Bettas are otherwise known as Siamese Fighting fish if you didn’t know what that was.) Katie loved Bob, she picked him out at the store, named him, carried him home carefully in his bag and talked to him daily at the kitchen table. Katie loves to feed all the pets in the house but I keep the fish-food away in order to prevent overfeeding.
Last night, she was very quiet at the table as she enjoyed her snack. After about fifteen minutes she came into the room and was saying something that sounded like, “Bob eat ‘da sauce momma! Come on! Bob eat ‘da sauce.” I followed her into the kitchen and saw that she had finished her applesauce and told her that she did a good job. “No momma, Bob eat dat! Bob eat da sauce!” She was pointing at Bob’s bowl and I could see a dribbled blob of applesauce making it’s way into the water. Oh no!!! She was so proud of herself for sharing her favorite food, applesauce, with Bob. Unfortunately, bettas do not eat applesauce.
Despite desperate efforts to clean his bowl, Bob didn’t make it. Sorry Bob, you will be missed.
