Anyone ever get what my husband calls “welder’s flash“? I did, from fireworks. That’s right, my poor abused eyes have been itchy, swollen and extremely sensitive to light ever since the night of the 4th. I have a true appreciation for the blind. I could not imagine living without my eyesight, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself. Everything I enjoy depends on being able to see. Here’s what happened.
We visited with friends during the day and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of pulled pork sandwiches, fruit salad and conversation. The kids played for awhile and the day was going perfectly. Then the clouds moved in and the day started looking like a wet one. Not good for the local fireworks display. On the way home, the sky started spitting but never seemed to completely open up.
The weather prompted us to decide not to risk driving out for the fireworks and get stuck in a torrential downpour. So we bought a few Pennsylvania approved fireworks at the local stand and went home to let the kids roast marshmallows and watch their own display. My oldest invited her boyfriend over to join in on what we thought was a fun-filled evening, he didn’t seem too impressed. I guess my kids are just easily amused.
